TCAN1144-Q1: Can TCAN1144-Q1 be compactible for both CAN and CAN-FD?

Part Number: TCAN1144-Q1

Customer was evaluating TCAN1144-Q1 in their new traction inverter design. They would like to check when selling their products to different end customers, who might support CAN or CAN-FD, could TCAN1144-Q1 support the normal communication without any SW/HW changed? Thank you.

  • Hi Aki,

Yes, TCAN1144-Q1 supports classic CAN and CAN-FD communications up to 5Mbps.

Do you know what device they are switching from? Depending on the current implementation, software changes are likely due to the fact that the mode control for TCAN114x is done through a SPI interface. The hardware may be compatible with other 14-pin CAN transceivers based on how the digital pins are routed to the processor. This will depend on the capabilities of the MCU pins as the SPI interface is needed for transceiver configuration and mode control.
