TCAN1042V-Q1: TCAN1042 variant differences? H? V? HV? -Q1?

Part Number: TCAN1042V-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1051, TCAN1051HV-Q1

Can someone explain the differences between the different variants of the TCAN1042

H? V? HV? -Q1?

some seem to be out of stock or others are available

a comparison in search shows no differences other than slight variations in package and price

  • G indicates 5 Mbps.
    H indicates ±70 V bus fault protection.
    V indicates I/O level shifting.
    Q1 indicates AEC-Q100 qualification.

This is shown in the Device Comparison Table in the datasheet.

  • C,

Thanks for bringing this to E2E. If you look in the electrical characteristics and pinout sections of the datasheet, these variants are explained.

-V: Versions with the -V suffix have a VIO pin which allows the transceiver to work with 3.3V logic levels on TXD, RXD, and STB rather than just 5V

-H: Versions with the -H suffix have extended CAN bus voltage protection, +/-70V rather than +/-58V in the non-H versions

-Q1: Q1 means that the device was qualified under the AEC-Q100 definition for qualification for Automotive standards

Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • thx, for what i was intending i think i only need one that has a V however they all appear to be out of stock, are there any others that are functionally equivalent, i can ask as a separate question if needed

  • C,

TCAN1051 has the same function besides pin 8. On TCAN1042 pin 8 controls standby mode which disables the CAN bus driver and receiver when a logic high is applied to the pin. On TCAN1051 pin 8 controls silent mode which only disables the CAN bus driver when a logic high is applied to the pin.

The TCAN1051V is likely out of stock too, but I think last time I checked the TCAN1051HV-Q1 had some devices in stock.
