TUSB1002EVM: Daisy chaining multiple TUSB1002EVM

Part Number: TUSB1002EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1002, TUSB1002A

Hello,

I'm running some experiments to check the viability of multiple USB3 interconnections through cables and connectors.

I've started testing with commercial USB3 cables and the TUSB1002EVM, connecting an external drive to a computer and measuring connection speed.

We have started the tests:

- 2 TUSB1002EVM between the computer and disk works OK

- 3 TUSB1002EVM between the computer and disk doesn't work, communication gets lost.

We still have to test multiple interconnections between EVMs, but we were expecting this to work.

The question is, is there some recommended tuning for interconnecting multiple TUSB1002? I've also read in the forum that changing to the TUSB1002A is recommended, but I can't find any significant differences between specifications.

Do you think that maybe is better to have multiple connector connections having the TUSB1002 more separated?

Thanks in advance,

  • Hi,

The change from TUSB1002 to TUSB1002A is the RX termination, changed from Vterm to DC GND. The reason for the change is that in the past we had some non-compliant USB device failed to detect the TUSB1002 far-end receiver termination to AC GND, causing interoperability problem. We changed from the AC GND in TUSB1002 to DC GND in TUSB1002A to help with these non-compliant USB devices.

When you daisy chain the TUSB1002, did you tune the TUSB1002 for each connection? The tuning has to be done for both the TX and the RX path. For example, if each connection is being over-equalizer, the over-equalization will build up until the signal is completely degraded and causing functional issue.

    Thanks

    David
