Two monitors simultaneous on TMDS442

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDS442

Hi,

we want to use the TMDS442 as a HDMI-Splitter/Switcher.

Is it possible to drive two monitors (Sink ports) from one Source port ?

And I have another question about the sink-priority (SP) bit in the source plug-in status register:

When it is "0" it selects Sink-port 1 as main display.

What happens to Sink-port 2 ?

Is it switched off or does it "clone" the data from Sink-port 1 ?

Thanks in advance,

Ralf Wagner

  • it is possible to drive two displays from one source, but the same signal will appear on both monitors.  If HDCP encryption is used, this will not work.  If the two monitors do not support the same resolution, this will not work.

SP (sink priority) is only "active" when both inputs are selected for both outputs.  When "0" is  selecting sink 1 as the main, this will route the high speed as well SCL/SDA.  So, the monitor on port 1 is now connected to the source while port 2 is just a monitor of the high speed signal.  So, the source will now read the EDID of the port 1 source and match the highest data rate they both will support and start the high speed video signaling.  Both output ports will get the high speed signal.  The switch is always in the "clone" mode, but only one resolution is support (same signal goes to both sinks)

  • Hi Ken,

thanks for the answers. This is exactly what I wanted to know.

    Thank you,
