Bus powered TUSB3410

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB3410

Hello folks,

I'm using TUSB3410 in my design and I'm facing the following problem: I have to connect the USB cable many times until I get a good connection. In the first tries, I get the following message:

Translating:

“USB device was not recognized - One of the USB devices connected to this computer had a malfunctioning and Windows does not recognizes it. To get help to solve this problem, click on this message.”

Then, after aprox. 5 tries (not always the same number of unsuccessful tries), I can finally connect and communicate (COM4 port is detected). The communications works fine.

My TUSB3410 is being powered by the 5V bus power, and I’m using the TL760M33 LDO regulator to get 3.3V. A capacitive isolator (ISO7221) is also powered by the 3.3V.

The circuit schematic is shown below:

I wonder if the LDO is taking too long to start and the D+ D- pins start communications (on the PC side) before the TUSB3410 is ready. Could it be the problem?

Thanks in advance,

André Araujo

  • Hello Andre,

Your assumption about the timing of the LDO could be indeed the root cause, please measure your /Reset signal versus the power rail and oscillator per the section 13.1 of the TUSB3410 datasheet.

    Regards.

  • I have been digging in the forums for ideas for a project I am currently working on and your issue is something I have been running in to with Windows lately.  USB has a limit of how much amps it can deliver for devices and I doubt the circuit uses over 200 mA.  My issue turned out to be a PC side power supply issue.  It resolved a number of devices plugging in to the USB as being recognized by purchasing a powered USB hub that had it's own power adapter.  It also helped with organizing my work space by having the hub at a location that was farther from my PC case.  There are many available with different configurations.

Hope this is of assistance with the project as an alternative way to resolve the intermittent device detect issue.
