PCA9535: Port Expander for 192 GPIOs?

Part Number: PCA9535
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA6424A, TCA6418E

My customer is looking for a 3.3V, i2c port expander for up to 192 GPIO with addressing that can accommodate 12 16-bit devices?  The 16-bit devices I have found, like the PCA9535, can support only 8 addresses.  Do we have anything else we can offer?

Thanks

  • Hello Allen,
Have you looked at the TCA6418E or the TCA6424A? You could also use a MUX to deal with addressing limitations. You would probably need to separate them anyway due to capacitive loading requirements set by I2C standard, 400pF per node.

Look at the App Note covering how to choose I2C devices.
