TPD1S414: What would happen if Vbus_sys is shorted to gnd?

Part Number: TPD1S414

Hi,

1. What would happen if Vbus_sys is shorted to gnd? Is there any overcurrent protection at Vbus_sys?

2. If protection exists, what would happen If short is removed?

Thanks.

  • YY,

    1.  The datasheet states that the part is designed assuming that the OTG supply.  This means that the TPD1S414 does not have any short protection internally and is expecting a current limited supply.  The VBUS current must be limited by the system to 3.5A prior to the TPD1S414.

    2.  The only protection offered by the TPD1S414 is the UVLO.  Here is the spec section that describes this behavior.

To summarize the answer to your question- There is not short to ground protection in the device and the up stream source is expected to limit the device current to 3.5A max.

    Chuck
