TPD8S300: TPD8S300 OVP Detail

Part Number: TPD8S300

Dear Team,

I have several questions about TPD8S300 OVP:

1. Is this OVP detect connector side or system side?

2. How this device detect OVP?

3. How this device detect the different of 5V short or 20V short? Does it use the same comparison block like OP?

4. How this device clamp the output voltage for corresponding short voltage?

Thanks

Shaq.

  • Hi Shaquille,

Thank you for your interest in theTPD8s300. Look below for my answers to your questions in red:

    1. Is this OVP detect connector side or system side?

    Connector side (C_CCx and C_SBUx).

    2. How this device detect OVP?

Through a fast OVP comparator circuit.

    3. How this device detect the different of 5V short or 20V short? Does it use the same comparison block like OP?

SBU channel: The same OVP comparator circuit will trip both 5V and 20V.

CC channel: The OVP circuit will only trip above 6V because the CC path is 5V tolerant.

    4. How this device clamp the output voltage for corresponding short voltage?

According to the datasheet, the device will clamp to a typical value of 8V for ONLY 70ns (CCx) and 80ns (SBUx), then it will shut off the FET path and ground the CCx/SBUx lines.

    I hope this helps :-)
