TPS2540: Behavior for overcurent

Hi support member,

TPS2540 can't recognize any port type just after USB device connection.

Is inrushcurrent allowed within short circuit condition by ILIMx setting?

Is threshold current of shour circuit maximum allowable current for each port type after recognixed port type?

Hi Hirotaka,

Inrush current is clamped based on the ILIMx setting.

The threshold current for short circuit is set by the ILIMx pins and is independent of the port type.

Should PD(Potable device) make current limit to 0.5A basically, after the port type recognized SDP?

Does that mean that TPS2540 don't make current limit to 0.5A, then?

Hi Hirotaka,

The Portable Device will decide how much current it pulls so in a way it does make its own current limit.

Yes. The TPS2540 current limits based on the ILIMx pins. The device will current limit depending on how the ILIMx pins are configured and not on what mode it is in.
