DS90LV011A: input impedance/termination requirements

Part Number: DS90LV011A

I'm driving the DS90LV011A with an oscillator chip. Does there need to be any termination at the input of the DS90LV011A? How about series resistance at the output of the oscillator chip? Figure 4 shows a 50 ohm shunt termination for the Differential Driver Propagation Delay and Transition Time Test Circuit. Is this necessary?

  • Hi,

No input termination should be needed at the DS90LV011A input.  If the oscillator is located some distance from the DS90LV011A input you can add a footprint for a series resistor.  This resistor value can be adjusted as needed for the oscillator to properly drive the DS90LV011A input.  Initially I would just populate the resistor with a value of 0 Ohms and measure the waveform at the DS90LV011A input to see if any adjustment is needed.

The oscillator datasheet is another good place to find information about the device driving requirements and characteristics.

    Regards,
