tps2540: attempting to locate macroscopic alternative with equivalent function to 2540

Hello,

   I am a high school teacher attempting to guide an engineering class through the production of solar cell phone chargers.  The great majority of modern cell phones require some sort of interface in order to accept external current sources for charging.  The TPS2540 seemed like the perfect candidate for our project, until we purchased 5 units for evaluation.  Even with DIP adapters, we are unable to manually solder the IC to said adapter, as I came to realize that such is not its intended method of installation in devices.  

My question is the following; does TI offer any solution with the 2540's function, in a package intended for manual installation?  Unfortunately, we are a public school, and cannot afford to have a custom engineered solution made for us, especially for only 30 units.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your time.

    Dear teacher,

    I have one question for you
    since some USB port supports Data+power,for examole, if you plug Cell phone into your computer through USB port, your computer can copy pincutes from your cell phone. But some USB ports only support power (your cell phone adapter as an example). so do you need Data+power or just Power?

    if you need Data+power, then TPS2540 is a good choice.
    if you only need power, then I recommend TPS2514A and TPS2513A. TPS2514A is single channel and TPS2513A is dual channel. if you need want some over current protection, then you can use TPS2561 which is a power switch with over current limit function.
