DS100DF410: 40G QSFP issue; no link

Part Number: DS100DF410

Can the DS100DF410 be used for Ethernet 40G QSFP applications ? we have not been successful with linking to 40G QSFP ? any idea's ? the circuit uses two DS100DF410's; one for TX and one for RX.

  • Hi Kevin,

    What is the exact datarate?

How are you configuring the DF410?

    Regards,

    Lee

  • The data rate is 10G per lane for 40G Ethernet.

The Retimer is mostly default settings except using Retimed data mode.

Are there Retimer settings to support 40G when using all four channels.

  • Hi Kevin,

The retimer is designed to work with the default settings when the input signals are running at a datarate of 10.3125 Gbps.

Do you have a 25 MHz input clock?

The DS100DF410 is in retimed mode by default.

    Regards,

    Lee

  • Yes, the Retimer circuit uses 25Mhz clock with clock mode set to 3.

  • Hi Kevin,

What additional register changes are being used in this application?  If you can create a file with the shared and channel register space it would be good to have a look at all the register information.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Lee

  • Hi Lee,

The register init list is below; there are no other adjustments:
RT5 thru RT8 are the four DS100DF410 chips making up two 40G Ethernet ports connecting to 40G QSFP's.
The circuit connects QSFP's on server to Radiall optics modules to the Retimers then out to 40G Ethernet switch via backplane.

  • Kevin,

Please attach a register dump file for one of the retimers by reading the whole address space.  It helps me to understand the state of the retimer.

You should not need to do all of those steps:

"select reference clock mode fast lock" -  is default

"Retimed Data" output -  is default

"PFD_OV" - not needed since the data output is retimed by default.

    "EOM" - not needed

    Regards,

    Lee
