If PHY is used as data converter 100Base-TX to 100Base-FX, will conversion & data transfer be bit or packet wise ?

    Hi Guenter,

    The data will not be modified. The only thing that changes is the Ethernet packet framing.

    The packet data actually travels up to the MII sublayer, then is muxed to the input MII of the next PHY. This is essentially the same as placing 2 PHYs on a board together with their interfaces connected.
