TS5A23159: How can auto detect from two Type C port

Part Number: TS5A23159
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3USB221, TUSB321

Hi,

Now I have a application about two Type C input then only one type C output.

If need to auto detect CC pin, may I know if have any Analog Switch solution that can Auto Switch to Right Type C after Detect Signal?

Block is below.

Regards,

Eric

  • Eric,

I'm sure what you mean by auto switch to the right Type C connector.

If you plug a USB connector into Type C Con1 you want the Analog SW block above to detect something is plugged in and route only the CC pin to the CC pin node on the right of your diagram?

If you plug a USB connector into a Type C Con2 you want the Analog SW block above to detect something is plugged in and route only the CC pin to the CC pin node on the right of your diagram?

What do you want to have happen if there are two USB connectors plugged into both Type C Con 1 and 2?

I think you are look for a device like the TSUSB321 device that will sense something is plugged into the CC line and then send out a GPIO status. Then you can use the GPIO status to toggle an analog switch like the TS5A23159.

    Thank you,
    Adam
  • Hi Adam,

If you plug a USB connector into Type C Con1 you want the Analog SW block above to detect something is plugged in and route only the CC pin to the CC pin node on the right of your diagram?  --> Yes

If you plug a USB connector into a Type C Con2 you want the Analog SW block above to detect something is plugged in and route only the CC pin to the CC pin node on the right of your diagram?  --> Yes

But I have one question about TS3USB221 send out a GPIO status, may I know which one?

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    Eric

  • Eric,

The TS3USB221 device is a passive FET switch and cannot do any detection or send status indication through a GPIO. This device simply switches between two ports based on the logic signal provided to the S pin.

To do the detection and status indication you will need to use a device with more than just a passive switch like the TSUSB321.

    Thank you,
    Adam
  • Hi Adam,

Is it TUSB321, right? So I can use DIR pin to control Analog Switch direction?

Update Block as below. Please kinldy check again.

    Thanks.

    Eric

  • Eric,

I will let the experts on the TUSB321 comment on their device but I believe this to be a viable solution.

    Thank you,
    Adam
