HD3SS460: Implementation topology

Hi,

Currently customer plans to use HD3SS460 for their USB3-gen1 @ 5Gbps and DP @ 5.4Gbps on their NB. The distance between CPU and the type-c connector is around 5000mils. Now they plan to place HD3SS460 around 4200mils from the CPU, and 800mils from the type-C connector. Please double confirm if this is ok or not, or you suggest any other location on the board.

Why not use TUSB546? This is a switch that can switch between USB and DP plus redriver capability to compensate channel ISI.

Hi David,

The customer strategy is to save as much money as possible, so redriver is the last option unless it's necessary. Please provide your comments for their topology with HD3SS460 firstly. Or, do you think their topology definitely needs a redriver here?

It depends on their channel insertion loss, plus TX and RX capability. HD3SS460 can be used, but it is a switch only without redriver capability.
