TUSB8041: Layout Question

Dear Sir,

Our customer is using TUSB8041I.

USB2.0 & USB3.0 downstream signals from TUSB8041I chip to USB3.0 connector using 6 via’s with combination of blind and buried via’s.

And Max trace length is within the spec.

Is it acceptable or not?? Will we face any SI issue??

Hi CK,

Is that 6 vias on each trace? That is quite a lot. Are the differential traces well matched in length? How long is the trace?

Differential trace matched in <1mil.

Differential trace length max 6 inch.

Hello CK,

Trace length matching and length are acceptable, but 6 vias in each trace may cause signal quality issues. I would expect USB 2.0 to handle the extra vias without too much concern, but with the higher signaling rate on USB 3.0 all those vias may be an issue.

Customers want to double confirm.

As told, the 6 vias are not through hole via, it’s combination of blind and buried vias.

In this case, will we also get issue in signal quality?

Hello CK,

Yes, even if the vias are blind / buried it can still add discontinuities in the signal trace.
