TPS25810A-Q1: Function of current source on CC pin(Type C)

Part Number: TPS25810A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25810

Hi,

I am not sure the function of the current source connected with the CC pin. If this current source output ISO, or used for select the broadcast current, or for other

function? Thank you.

  • Hi, Jessica,

It's used to generate broadcast current.

  • Hi Bob,

Thank you so much for your kind help.

I have some other questions about this device:

    1. If the current value of this current source is controlled by the control Logic which is relate to the CHG and CHG_HI ?

    2. When an overload protection mode is working, the device will fixed the output current to Ios, what is the source of Ios, and how does this device achieve fixed output current when an overload condition is present.

    Thanks & Best Regards
    Jessica
  • Hi, Jessica,

    1. Yes, this current source is controlled by CHG and CHG_H. Set CHG as high to choose type-C broadcast function and set CHG_H to high/low to choose 3A/1.5A broadcast current. There's detailed description in datasheet, I attached it as below.

    2. TPS25810 set power FET to saturation region to limit current, where the current will not change as VDS changes. From "8.2 Functional Block Diagram" in datasheet, you can know Ios is come from Vin power supply.
