DP83849IFVS-EVK: DP83849IFVS both RJ45 to the fiber simultaneously

Part Number: DP83849IFVS-EVK

Hello, i want to communicate with both rj45 ports to the fiber at the same time. I mean i will use port A and port B (rj45) simultaneously (They will share time of course) and i will communicate through fiber at the same time with DP83849IFVS. Is that possible? Or i can use only one port with the fiber? Thank you for your answer.

  • Hi Ahmet,

Both ports can be used as fiber simultaneously. There are dedicated strap pins for each port that can enable fiber mode on the respective port.

  • Hello Aniruddha,

Actually, my question is a little bit different but thank you so much. Let me ask you again. For example there are two computers at one side (Lets say computer A and B), and there is one computer at the other side (Computer C). These two computers (A and B) have ethernet cable connection to the DP83849IFVS-EVK and the computer C has fiber connection. A and B are communicating with the C and vice versa. Firs, A is communicating with the C and C is communicating with A, and then, B is communicating with the C and C is also communicating with B.  A and B are sharing time when they are communicating with the C. Is that possible?

    Thank you.

    Ahmet.

  • Hi Ahmet,

DP83849 has only two ports for media connections. Media can be fiber or copper ethernet cables. So realistically you will only be able to connect two systems to DP83849. If A and B are connected to DP83849 then C will have no ports left to connect on DP83849. Perhaps I am still not fully understanding your systems. Can you share a block diagram of how A, B, and C are connected. Please include how DP83849 fits in this system. Also would computers A, B,C all have DP83849 or do they have single port ethernet?
