TLK110: PHY transformer center tap connection

TLK110 team,

In the TLK110 datasheet SLLS901D, Figure 7-1 shows the PHY side center taps of the PHY transformer connected to Vdd.

Does anyone know the electrical reason that this connection is made?  What is the problem if you do not connect the center tap to Vdd (but just have the cap to ground on it)?
