TCAN1042H-Q1: TCAN1042 SON package device variance.

Part Number: TCAN1042H-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1042-Q1

hi Team,

customer looking for a smaller package size of TCAN1042

1. the VSON package seems only available for TCAN1042 - Q1 device? is there non-Q device that also in VSON package?

2. the difference in the device marking 1042/1042V, is it just top marking different? any functional or electrical difference?

3. what are the other differences (highlighted in below table) in below device number other than the device marking

  • oh found the device comparison table for the difference in H and G. is there a common used and recommended part?
    Thanks
  • John,

The part variation choice is heavily dependent on your application. Some questions to help your decision:

    1. What is the highest voltage expected on the CANH and CANL pins?
    2. Do your IO voltages need to be separate from your CAN supply voltage?
    3. What data rate is expected in the application?

If you can answer these questions I can point you in the right direction.

    Regards,

  • Thanks Eric for your reply.

the base TCAN1042-Q1 should do the job.

the orderable part 1042 and 1042V should have not functional difference except the marking?

  • John,

There is indeed a functional difference between the 1042 and the 1042V. On the 1042V, pin 5 is the VIO pin which sets the IO levels for the STB, TXD, and RXD pins. The idea is that there can be 5V VCC but VIO could be connected to 3.3V, and the TXD, RXD, and STB pins would all work with 3.3V logic levels. On the 1042, pin 5 is a no connect pin.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,
