TUSB8020B: Connecting a USB Host to Downstream port

Part Number: TUSB8020B

Hi,

What will happen if a USB 3.0 host is connected in downstream port & a USB device is connected to the upstream Port?

Will this interface work? if not what are the limitations in this..?

Is there any schemes avialable to connect 2 dual roll USB ports to another one dual roll USB port?

Thank you.

  • Hello Selvaraj,

You would need to implement a USB hub that supports role reversal. The TI hubs do not support role reversal. The implementation you described will not work with the TUSB8020B.

  • Hi JMMN,

What is the link speed between the Host processor and USB hub upstream port when downstearm port one is connected to USB3.0 Device & downstream port two is connected to USB 2.0 device?

Is there any bandwith limitation will happen for the 3.0 device connected to downstream port one?

    Note:

Host processor is having one USB 3.0 Port.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Selvaraj,

A USB 3.0 cable actually has two separate buses: USB 3.0 and USB 2.0. The host and the hub connect over both buses and there is no translation between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, the signalling is completely separate.
