Hi Eddie,

The DP83849I does not support fiber.
However the DP83849IF does and this will meet the application requirements your described above.

DP83849IF can meet this application without any MCU contorl? In other words,don't charge any register of DP83849IF, right?

I desgin application for UTP<->Fiber.
So I study DP83849 evaluation board test (www.ti.com/.../tidu510a.pdf).
In page 17, there is media converter mode example that how to do it? it's without any MCU to charge any register on DP83849?

Hi Zen,

DP83849IF can be configured for this through bootstraps.
Please see section 6.5.4 Strapped Extender or Media Converter Mode.

Media converter mode must charge RBR[12:9] on table 6-7

In datasheet (page.85), are the register of RBR controled by SW(softwave)?

so DP83849IFcan be implemented media converter mode by extra hw (ex: resistance)?

Hi Zen,

The DP83849IF will automatically configure the RBR bits based on the hardware bootstrap settings you pick.
Yes, the DP83849IF can be configured for media converter mode though bootstrap (hardware, resistors).

In section 6.5.4:
The DP83849IF provides a simple strap option to automatically configure both channels for Extender or
Media Converter Mode with no device register configuration necessary. The EXTENDER_EN Strap can
be used in conjunction with the Auto-Negotiation Straps (AN_EN, AN0, AN1), the RMII Mode Strap, and
the Fiber Mode (FX_EN) Strap to allow many possible configurations. If Extender Mode is strapped but
RMII Mode is not, both channels will automatically be configured for Single Clock MII Receive and
Transmit Modes. The optional use of RMII Mode in conjunction with Extender Mode allows flexibility in the
system design.
