TRS3122E: Does thermal pad really require grounding?

Part Number: TRS3122E

We're in production with a layout of this part where the GND is not connected to the thermal pad.  Will this cause any issues?  Can the part still work this way?

  • Jatan,

Yes, this will be fine. There are no direct electrical connections between the thermal pad and the die, so leaving it floating should not have an impact on electrical performance. The pad serves only to improve thermal conductivity from the die to the PCB.

    Best regards,
