DP83867IS: Ping test failed even though host PC alread recognize the PHY device

Part Number: DP83867IS
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83867ERGZ-R-EVM,

Dear TI team,

We use DP83867ERGZ-R-EVM board for SGMII test purpose,  and also, we use jump wire to connect the MAC side and phy side directly, don't know if the way is OK.

anyway, PC can recognize the phy device now.

What we have done:

1. Pin LED_0 is configurated to SGMII mode(MODE 4)

2. Phy register 0x10 bit 11 is configurated to SGMII mode.

3. phy register 0xd3 bit 14 is configurated to 4-wire mode. becasue we use 4 wire between MAC and phy side.

4. phy is configurated to mirror mode, as the pin LED_0 is at mode 4, sgmii mode.

Could you please help give some advice ?

Thanks a lot in advance. Appreciated.

  • Hi,

SGMII interface is high speed LVDS interface. You need to route the differential lines to connect to MAC. Jumpers wires will not work.

  • Dear Geet,

We also have a board which is mounted the DP83867IS, connection between MAC and phy is not jumper wire, we see the same phenomenon on this board.

Data of ping test can't reach MAC side, but the host PC already recognize the phy device DP83767IS.

Attached picture is our hardware design, Could you please help review our design ?

    Many thanks.

  • Hi Jophse,

Your SGMII connections looks ok. Have you verified DP83867 is strapped to SGMII mode.

You can read following register to confirm PHY is in SGMII mode and SGMII link is up.

    1. Strap LED_0 can be used to enable the SGMII Mode
    2. It can be verifeid thru register 0x0467 b[1:0] .
    3. The SGMII Enable strap corresponds to the SGMII Enable (bit 11) in the PHYCR register (address 0x0010).
    3. You can read the status of SGMII thru following register. It shall show link-up to have successful data transfer. SGMII Auto-Negotiation Status (SGMII_ANEG_STS)), address 0x0037
