TL16C754C: TL16CP754C input voltage tolerance...

Part Number: TL16C754C

Hi all,

Does the TL16CP754C can be safely interfaced with an 5V powered RS485 transceiver when it is powered under 3.3V.

As this this chip can be powered from 1.8v, 3v3, or 5v, I just would like to know if it's 5V tolerant on the inputs.

Many thanks

BR

  • Hey P45000,

While the TL16CP754C is 5V tolerant, it has ESD cells which back bias the body diodes and will actually shift the Vcc of the device. So if you place a 5V logic on one of the pins, I would expect the Vcc of the 3.3V line to shift up to about 4.3V. Anything using that voltage rail could get damaged from this shift if they are not tolerant of that voltage.

For that reason I would suggest placing a levelshifter when interfacing between our device and the RS485 transceiver.

    Thanks,

    -Bobby

  • Hi Bobby,

    Thank you for your answer.

Would it be possible for you to give me the internal input structure with ESD Cells?

    Many thanks for your help.

    Phil

  • Hey Phil,

Sorry I didn't see your follow up question until just now.

The Internal structures of a device is something we are not able to disclose.

    Sorry,

    -Bobby
