SN65HVD101: Avionic Single ended bi-directional discretes

I am looking for avionic single ended bi-directional discretes and i found  'SN65HVD101' IC suits for the same application (Avionic discretes). So, please clarify me this particular IC suits for the same application or not.

    I'm not an expert in avionics applications - is there a certain physical layer specification to which you need to adhere for the discrete IO implementation?

    Generally I can say that while devices like SN65HVD101 or TIOL111/TIOS101 (a newer set of devices you may want to consider here) are marketed towards factory automation applications such as IO-Link sensors, they can also be used in many other applications that require higher-voltage IOs of either the push/pull, high/open, or open/ground output type and would benefit from features like transient protection and output short-circuit current limiting.  You might want to reference this white paper for more information on the devices and the advantages they can provide over discrete transistor-based implementations:

  • almost i got the answer from you. One small doubt still, that is i found one IC with part number HI-8429PSIF form holt integrated circuits . This holt iC is not bi-directional , only it will receive sensor information. This holt IC gives me solution in one direction.So , can any one tell me that 8429PSIF, and SN65HVD101 are equivalent in functionality except uni-direction or bi-direction.  Please refer both data sheets for this, and suggest me. I am not hardware expert and this is my first design.

    You are correct.  The HI-8429 device receives eight channels of high-voltage inputs and converts them to digital logic-level signaling.  It is not designed to output high-voltage signals (i.e., 28 V).  Similar TI devices might be SN65HVS883 or TIC12400-Q1.

    The SN65HVD101 or TIOL111 devices implement a single channel only and would be able to support the conversion between high-voltage and logic-voltage in both directions.  The TIOS101 device would have similar performance but only support conversion of a logic-level input to a high-voltage output.  The high-voltage outputs from all three of these devices are compatible with the SENSE inputs to HI-8429.

    For the SN65HVD101 I would recommend referencing Figure 11 in the datasheet for an implementation schematic.  For TIOL111, you could reference Figure 17.  Both devices also have EVMs available that could be used as an example (although a real application would likely be simpler - the EVMs typically have extra circuitry to be able to support various tests).

    You could also click the "Design & development" tab in each device's ti.com product folder (for example, http://www.ti.com/product/TIOL111/) to see a listing of different reference designs.  I don't think any would specifically address avionics applications, but they would still help give an idea of these chips' general usage.
