DP83848-EP: DP83848 Max-rating Questions

Part Number: DP83848-EP

Hi Team,

Could you please help to figure out the max-rating of DP83848's TD+/- and RD+/-(max voltage that won't do damage to the device)? Thanks.

Best Regards

  • Qiang,

The absolute max rating section details this information.

    The Vin/Vout specification lists -0.5V to Vcc + 0.5V.

  • Hi Wade,

Does the "-0.5V to Vcc+0.5V" mean the differential voltage or the absolute value? We are using the differential output, the P pin voltage is tested to be 4.7V and the N pin voltage is tested to be 3.3V(Vcc pull-up voltage). If it's the differential voltage, what is the absolute voltage value? Thanks a lot.

    Best Regards,

    Qiang

  • Qiang,

It is my understanding that this is representing single ended voltages, and not differential.

I am waiting confirmation from the catalog team.

    Regards,

    Wade

  • Hi Wade,

Could you please update the answers? Thanks a lot!

    Best Regards

  • Qiang,

I am still awaiting feedback from the catalog team.  They have been on travel, so it is somewhat delayed.

Should be able to clear this up soon.

    Regards,

    Wade

  • Hi Wade,

Could you please update the feedback? If it is the single-ended voltage, I think it's too low... Because in the actual application, the single-ended voltage can easily exceed the Vcc+0.5V..

    Best Regards

  • I have connected with the mass market team.   I expect updates shortly.

    Regards,

    Wade

  • Qiang,

I just received feedback from the team.

The absolute max ratings for the MDI pins (TD-, TD+, RD+, RD-) is 5.5V.

    I apologize for delay.

  • Hi Wade,

Thanks for your reply. There are 2 points to check with you:

    • Where can the customer find the 5.5V spec in DS and how to calculate that? Could you please also attach the internal diagram of this PIN?
    • How long can the device survive when the MDI input is 5.5V? If the MDI input voltage duration is short, can the max rating increase?

    Best Regards,

    Qiang

  • Qiang,

    • Where can the customer find the 5.5V spec in DS and how to calculate that? Could you please also attach the internal diagram of this PIN?

WVB: This specification is not currently in the DS.   I am requesting that this information get added.   I am researching to see if there are equivalent circuits for the MDI pins that can be provided.

    • How long can the device survive when the MDI input is 5.5V? If the MDI input voltage duration is short, can the max rating increase?

WVB: Unfortunately, this is not something that can be characterized sufficiently.  This would apply to the Absolute Max Ratings section with following note:

    (1) Stresses beyond those listed under Absolute Maximum Ratings may cause permanent damage to the device. These are stress ratings only, which do not imply functional operation of the device at these or any other conditions beyond those indicated under Recommended Operating Conditions. Exposure to absolute-maximum-rated conditions for extended periods may affect device reliability.

I am out of the office until Tuesday.  I will let you know if there is a equivalent circuit.

    Regards,

    Wade

  • Qiang,

I was not able to locate equivalent circuits.

I have informed the mass market team that the abs max value is missing.  This should be put into queue to get updated on next datasheet release.

    Regards,

    Wade
