TCAN1051H: ESD Ratings

Part Number: TCAN1051H
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: STRIKE

Hi,

Could you tell me about ESD Ratings?
Is there an ESD Rating spec between CANH and CANL?
Should I check “All terminals”?

Best regards,
Yuto Sakai

  • Hi Yuto-san,

TCAN1051H was tested at levels specified in section 7.2 of the datasheet in accordance with JEDEC Standard 22 Test Methods as well as IEC 61000-4-2 ESD and EFT test standards. These cover a variety of stress models to evaluate the protection devices incorporated into the device. Did you have a question regarding the any specific test? For general information about ESD and ESD testing, here's an App Note with a brief overview of the topic.

There is not a ESD rating specifically between the two bus pins CANH and CANL. Test standards specify that the ESD strike is in relation to the device's GND for consistency. In practice, the voltage potential of either CANH or CANL will be much smaller than the voltage potential of an ESD strike. This would mean that the rating between CANH and CANL will likely be very close to the given specifications that reference to ground.

"All Terminals" refers to all pins that are not bus pins CANH and CANL. Because these bus pins are the only pins that are exposed to conditions that are the most susceptible to ESD and EFT events during normal operation, they have added protection. Refer to the "All Terminals" specifications when looking for ESD ratings for pins TXD, RXD, Vcc, S, and Vio.

I hope this information helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Regards,

    Eric
