DP83867CS: VDDIO Absolute Maximum Ratings Clarification

Part Number: DP83867CS

To Whom It May Concern,

I am using the DP83867CS Ethernet PHY chip.  I want to confirm that VDDIO is configurable to  3.3V, 2.5V, or 1.8V like the front page of the datasheet says, and that there are not separate chip options for 3.3V, 2.5V, and 1.8V VDDIO voltages.  My confusion stems from section 7.1 on page 9 "Absolute Maximum Ratings" where there are different absolute maximum ratings for VDDIO depending upon the "option".  This seems to imply that if you, for example, select a 1.8V "option", and apply more than 2.1V to VDDIO then the part could be damaged, which doesn't make sense if it can also accommodate 2.5V and 3.3V voltages.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if I need to provide further information.

Thanks,

Max

  • Hello Max,

You are correct this part can operate at all three voltages listed. There are no separate chip options however other components/pins of the PHY use this VDDIO voltage. For example, INT/PWDN must be pulled to VDDIO, MDIO voltages are based on the three VDDIOs, etc. Therefore if using a certain VDDIO please follow the specification listed in the datasheet.

    Thanks,
