TPS65987EVM: Variable Sink PDO

Part Number: TPS65987EVM

Hi Interface Team!

I have received a question from a customer working with the TPS65987EVM in sink mode.

This is from the customer:

I have used the TI Application Configuration Tool to create a project with 4 fixed sink PDOs.

The binary created from this project works, and I can successfully negotiate all of the contracts.

However, I tried to reduce the number of PDOs by creating a variable sink PDO of up to 20V at 4A, and this failed to negotiate anything over 5V at 3A.

What is the purpose of the variable sink, and can I use a single variable sink to test all 4 PD contracts?

Let me know if you need any more information!

Thank you,

Mitchell

  • Hi Mitchell,

As per spec, Variable Supply - A very poorly regulated power supply that is not a Battery.

However, I tried to reduce the number of PDOs by creating a variable sink PDO of up to 20V at 4A, and this failed to negotiate anything over 5V at 3A.

    >>>Did the source advertise matching Variable PDO and the sink failed to establish contract?

What is the purpose of the variable sink,

    >>> If the Sink can work with a poorly regulated source (range of source supply, say 5-8 V) it can configure itself as Variable Sink.

and can I use a single variable sink to test all 4 PD contracts?

    >>> I did not get your question. Could you explain the use case a bit?

    Thanks
