TCAN1044-Q1: Whether need to add choke if use FD 8M speed

Part Number: TCAN1044-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1044V,

Hi Team,

I refer TCAN1044-Q1 and TCAN1044V datasheet and found that one of them add common choke, another doesn't...

Could you please give a certain answer whether TCAN1042/44 need to add choke when using FD rate(5M/8M)?

Thanks!

  • Hi Amelie,

Common mode chokes are used to filter common-mode and high frequency noise on differential signal lines. In CAN systems, one of the primary applications for inductive chokes is to improve the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) of the system by dissipating such noise through the choke’s magnetic core and therefore reducing emission on the signal and earth lines.

Because noise immunity and emissions are system-level design criteria, TCAN1042 and TCAN1044 are not specified to require a common-mode choke for operation. Some datasheet layout examples include chokes to suggest where to place the device relative to the transceiver in systems that will require it.

I hope this information helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric
