SN65HVD1782: J1708 Driver circuit

Hi,

I'm currently using part SN65HVD1782 for RS485.

Can you tell me if this interface will support J1708 protocol.

If it does support J1708, is there much of difference to the driver circuit?

    Yes, J1708 uses the RS-485 physical layer and so an RS-485-compliant transceiver like SN65HVD1782 (or SN65HVD1782-Q1) could be used by sending data on the "DE" control line (rather than the usual "D" input).  You would need to invert the polarity on the DE line (so that the logic polarity matches what is expected in J1708), tie the D input to GND, and use the recommended bus biasing/termination circuit for J1708.  Figure 4 in this application note gives an example circuit:
