DP83867CS: Compatibility of DP83867CS with Intel chipsets

Hi,

I would like to design in the DP83867CS on an Intel platform (specifically, Atom C3000). The built-in GbE MAC of the C3000 will interface to the DP83867CS over SGMII.

Intel provides a list of supported PHYs but that list does not include any TI PHY. I suppose what they provide is a list of PHYs they have qualified, and is not an exhaustive list. However, for the purpose of derisking my design (and from past experience where I have seen significant BIOS customization work required in order to support certain PHYs), I would like to know if this PHY has been qualified on Intel platforms (particularly but not limited to C3000).

Note that this Ethernet port will be used as a network boot interface, so it is necessary for BIOS to be able to detect and initialize the PHY as needed.

Hi,

DP83867 SGMII is compliant to standards and shall be compliant to Intel platform as well.

If you can share the board schematics and driver configuration for ethernet phy, I can review and provide more detailed inputs.

Thanks, I am attaching the DP83867 schematic for your review.

Our BIOS vendor informs us that Intel supports the following GbE binaries (which must be programmed in the SPI Flash attached to the Intel processor). Would you know which one would work for the DP83867CS? yantra-sch-DP83867CS.pdf

Hi,

Thanks for the details. No, I don't see DP83867 in above list.

With SGMII interface, PHY expect to work with default driver as no delay configurations are not needed as with RGMII.
