Function description to be implemented:

1. When the adapter is not inserted, the pad can read the USB device, that is, the pad can supply power to the outside and interact with the outside.

2. When the adapter is inserted, the adapter charges the pad with 5V voltage. At the same time, the pad can exchange data through USB.

In the current test, tps65987 EVM board and 24V adapter are used for power supply

Question:

1. How to configure the tool through the application customization tool? Read the on-chip configuration file on the tooling board. How to download it from the configuration tool to the on-chip configuration file on the tooling board?

2. At present, when the evaluation board charges the pad, it will automatically negotiate the 9V fast charging mode. We don't want the fast charging mode. How to configure it?

3. After the pad and the evaluation board are connected, plug and unplug the power adapter, and it cannot automatically switch to the charging mode. Press the reset button of the EVM evaluation board to enter the charging mode.

Before reset, pad can identify USB device. After reset, when it enters fast charging mode, it cannot identify USB device. Why?

    1. Instead of reading the chip configuration on the EVM, recommend using one of the templates for the TPS65987D, and then changing the configuration for what you would like your system to be able to support.

    2. Go into the sink capabilities register, and only put 5V sink capabilities if that is the only thing you want your system to support

    3. This is considered a FRS (fast role swap) event, and if you are going from 5V to 5V, that will be difficult. Typically you would do FRS from 20V sink to 5V source. You can refer to the following app notes as reference

    Hi,

    If we use a 5V adapter as power supply, can we use TPS65987 to complete these functions?1) Charge other device through TPS65987 , 2) At the same time, the  D+ D- signal of device can be recognized, which is similar to the function of the port dock.

    What's more, once the adapter is removed, the device can work as source power.

    while, it seems that the TPS65987D EVM doesn't work as expected. When a 5V adapter was used to supply power for EVM, the device cannot be charged by EVM through type-c connecting. Once a 24V adapter was used, the device could be charged by EVM taht the charging power was 9V. The configuration project such as PDO has no effect.

    Hello,

    If you supply the TPS65987D with 5V, and the connected device requires 9V to be able to charge, then your test setup will never work.

    The DCDC on the EVM is a buck, and setup to receive a supply of 20V, and output 5V, 9V, 15V, and 20V to the TPS65987D. If you only supply 5V to the TPS65987D, our device will never be able to supply more than 5V to anything connected to it.
