TIOS101: Fault conditions prevention

Part Number: TIOS101
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIOL111

Hello,

I have a temperature sensor (1wire) interface. Maxim part number DS18b20).I need to protect outputs with below scenarios. Do TI had any solutions to protect for below scenarios.

I have seen that TI implemented these scenarios inside TIOS101.

Can I get a standalone solution on protecting the pins.

Thanks,
Muni

  • Hello Muni,

I am not aware of a standalone 1-wire polarity protection device.

If you look at the Block Diagram of the TIOS101 you will see a number of diodes connected on the right side of the device between the transistor driver stack and the output, power, and ground pins.  The protection for the various scenarios identified are because of these diodes that restrict current flow to any path other than the correct path.  If any of the wires are connected differently, then the diodes will protect the device.  A similar protection circuit could be made by placing these diodes in your application.

The TIOL111 is a similar device to the TIOS101 that has the same polarity protection interface and it is capable to bi-directional communication.  It has both a RX and TX pin on the sensor side of the device where the RX pin always reflects the data on the bus.  If your sensor needs bi directional data, this device might be able to be used by connecting both the RX and TX pins to your sensor.  However, you may need two additional Schottky diodes placed between the RX and TX pins of the TIOL111 to block the TX data feeding back to the sensor on the RX pin, and the RX data feeding back to the TX pin.  However, that is half the number of diodes you need for a discrete solution made up of multiple diodes and the sensor by itself.

    Regards,
