TIC10024-Q1: Value for Cbuff

Part Number: TIC10024-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIC12400

Page 71 of the TIC10024 data sheet provides some information for "Recommended" power supply and recommends a value for Cbuff of 100uF.

Page 73 of that data sheet provides a layout example for the TIC10024 including the placement of the various decoupling capacitors and what appears to be Cbuff next to a via labeled "Via to Ground Plane" at the top of the physical layout drawing.

100uF seems like a very large supply buffer for this part and the footprint for Cbuff in the example layout appears to be an 0805 package. I'm not aware of any 100uF capacitor in an 0805 package.

Further, on page 40 of the documentation for the TIC12400 Evaluation Module (SCPU036 - October 2017), C20 appears to be Cbuff and has a value of 4.7uF.

Is the 100uF value mentioned on page 71 of the data sheet a typo?

Question:

What is the recommended value of Cbuff?

  • Hi Wayne,

Please use the Cbuff shown in the EVM guide since this has been evaluated in the lab.

You are right, the 100uF seems very large. I am checking on the datasheet value and get back to you with details

    Regards

    Saminah

  • I don't understand what you mean when you say use the Cbuff in the EVM Guide.

I'm designing a PCB. I need to choose a device and a footprint. I need a value. I'm not going to release gerbers for manufacturing only to discover I need a different physical footprint and have to throw away assembled PCBs.
