TPS25810: usage questions

Part Number: TPS25810

Hi Team,

I have a couple of general questions concerning the TPS25810 and would appreciate your commentary.

  • Why is the recommended Vin range (4.5V - 5.5V) different from the USB-C spec, which defines Vconn at 3V - 5.5V?
  • If sourcing Vconn is not needed with the TPS25810, can IN2 be left unconnected?

  • Hi David,

I'm not sure if there is a specific reason why that voltage range was chosen instead of the 3V to 5.5V. In most systems that I have seen though, customers short IN2 to IN1, and provide 5V to VCONN. I would say this is pretty typical in the industry, as it allows your system to still be tolerant with connected devices that potentially cause a larger voltage drop on VCONN.

If you do not need VCONN, you can leave this pin unconnected.
