TCAN1042-Q1: Direct replacement for SN65HVDA1040A-Q1

Part Number: TCAN1042-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVDA1040A-Q1, TCAN1042V-Q1

Hi Team, Posting for a customer hoping you can help us.

The customer is planning to replace sn65hvda1040a-q1 with tcan1042-q1 on their board without changing the layout. They are having doubts only on Split PIN, it is NC /VIO in tcan1042-q1. Will there be any performance degradation?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Regards,

Mark

  • Mark,

There won't be any performance degradation, and the NC can be directly connected to the SPLIT connection in the original schematic and have no issues with TCAN1042. The SPLIT pin is meant to help with emissions by stabilizing the recessive level on the CAN bus. TCAN1042 has shown to pass emissions certifications without the need for a SPLIT pin, so it was not included.

If the customer wants to use TCAN1042V-Q1 with VIO at pin 5, the schematic will need to be adjusted so that a 3.3V or 5V supply can be applied to pin 5.

For more information on the SPLIT pin you can look at this E2E FAQ
