Hi,

Could you please let us know the surge performance data on SN65LBC180A?

We understand that the latest RS485 device "THVD1552" has a protection circuit against 1 kV surge (IEC 61000-4-5) transients.  Do you have any similar data on SN65LBC190A?   Please advice us.   I will recommend THVD device for next project.

    Hello Hattori-san,

    Unfortunately we have not conducted IEC 61000-4-5 on SN65LBC180A to my knowledge.  The device was not designed to withstand transient stresses beyond the ESD ratings in the datasheet, though, and so I would not expect it to support IEC 61000-4-5 to any significant level.  If surge tolerance is a system-level requirement, I would recommend implementing external protection circuits such as TVS diodes or gas discharge tubes in order to prevent stress to the transceiver.
