TPD6S300A: Need help understanding the operation/function of the cc bits when the device is not powered.

Part Number: TPD6S300A

Hi Support team

Customer is asking how the CC pins function if the device is not powered, are these pins hi-Z or will they also see Rd to GND. In their system they were planning on connecting the RPD pins to ground.

Regards

  • Hi Jeff,

If the RPD pins are used, in a dead battery scenario, the TPD6S300A will present the Rd resistors on the CC channels so that 5V can be presented on VBUS to power the PD controller. If you customer does not connect the RPD pins to the CC pins, then the TPS6S300A will not present an Rd in a dead battery scenario, the CC pins are not passed through to the PD controller so the PD controller will not be able to present an Rd, so 5V is never negotiated on VBUS.

Basically, if you do not connect the RPD pins, the system will not power up in a dead battery condition.
