DP83825I: DP83825I WoL power consumption with low power modes

Part Number: DP83825I
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83825

Hi Team,

I have a question about DP83825I WoL.
DP83825I supports WoL so we can make it low power modes.

DP83825I supports several low power modes as below but what mode DP83825I DP83825I can be activated from when it detects WoL frame?

Regards,
Kai

  • Hi Kai,

WoL can be used to put other controller on the board to low power mode and recover from it. It is not to put phy in low power mode.

Phy can detect a particular type of packet and generate an interupt on the pin. This interupt can be used by other ICs on the device to wake up from low-power state.(see datasheet for more details).

Phy needs to be in functional mode to detect this special packet.

If you share further details about what exactly customer is looking for at system level then we may look at other possibilities.

  • Hi Vikram,

Actually what customer wants to do is saving the power consumption of etherphy when there is no ethernet communication.
when ethernet link is established, they want to active etherphy.

DP83825I supports multi-low power modes so when there is no ethernet communication, they can save the power to put etherphy into low power mode.
The question here is how DP83825I comes back from low power mode when ethernet link is established and which low power mode they should select.

I though WoL is one of such function so I asked you.

    Regards,
    Kai

  • Hello Kai,

Kindly check the active sleep feature of DP83825. Does it suit your requirement?
