TRS3122E: Powerdown mode - entering early

Part Number: TRS3122E

Team,

Our customer is using the TRS3122E, and to save more power, they'd like to force the TRS3122E into the auto-powerdown before 30 seconds of idle time is reached.  They tried doing this with FORCEOFF, but this won't work, since holding FORCEOFF low will not allow the device to wake up, and if they pulse it low, they still have to wait 30 seconds.

Is there a way to significantly shorten the Auto Powerdown timer?  Or Force Auto Powerdown?

If not, do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Darren

  • Darren,

    It's an interesting request. I'm thinking you could manually hold FORCEOFF low then release the holding later when the INVALID pin goes low (meaning no signal on the bus). I'm not sure if it would bring other issues. Maybe it could bring you some new ideas.

    Regards,

    Hao

  • Hi Hao,

    Do you know if this should work?  Looking it what the customer has already tried, I don't think it will.  The tests they ran show FORCEOFF is held low for over 1 second, while there is no activity on the bus, so INVALID must already be low.  Then when they release FORCEOFF, current consumption goes high again.

    Thanks,

    Darren

  • Darren,

    To clarify, I meant first setting both FORCEON and FORCEOFF low, which manually powers down TX and RX. Then if INVALID is low, set FORCEOFF to high (keeping FORCEON low). Now RX should be on and TX keeps off. This setting seems working with me. What current consumption did they see? Can you get the supply current of three states?

    1. FORCEON=L, FORCEOFF=L;

    2. FORCEON=L, FORCEOFF=H;

    3. FORCEON=H, FORCEOFF=H;

    Regards,

    Hao
