DP83848I: Can we use RESET to simulate the state of unplugging the network cable

Part Number: DP83848I

Hi team,

My customer is using several DP83848I chips + one FPGA connected as a close loop system, and they need test if the system can identify the status when one network cable is plug out and lead to the system close loop broken, so they want a software method to simulate the state of unplugging the network cable.

Is RESET able to fully simulate the state of unplugging the network cable?

Thank you for support.

Best regards

Yunjing

  • Hi Yunjing,

Can you detail what you mean by fully simulate the state of unplugging the network cable? Holding the device in Reset or Powerdown mode will cause the link over the network cable to drop.

Placing the DP83848I in powerdown mode would be a better simulation since you will still have access to the PHY register settings.

    Regards,
    Justin
