DP83848I: DP83848I JTAG Connection

Part Number: DP83848I

Hello,

I have several questions related this IC. I appreciate for any help.

I would like to learn why is jtag is used in this phy transreceiver and how pinout can be made?

If design is made according to the datasheet, are there any problems going to be faced with the autonegotiation feature?

Is there a need for programming over jtag or the IC is plug and play?

Thanks

  • Hello,

The JTAG interface is provided to allow for board level diagnostic testing of the DP83848 and application. This is used with the BSDL file that can be found on the DP83848 design tool and simulation page.

If the DP83848 design is made according to the datasheet, the PHY will function well in auto-negotiation mode.

There is no need to programming over JTAG that is needed to configure the PHY. Please note that it is recommended to include SMI access (MDC and MDIO pins) to read and write internal MII registers of the PHY for debug. The PHY can be configured using bootstraps so that no programming is needed to establish link in the desired mode of operation.

    Regards,
    Justin
