SN65LVDM050: Line Drive IC for Fast Serial Interface using TMS320F28388D

Part Number: SN65LVDM050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28388D, TMDSFSIADAPEVM, TPD2E2U06, TPD2E007, , DSLVDS1047

We are going to use TMS320F28388D DSP for our FSI development project. In which we will use TX-D0 and TX-CLK per tranmitter module and RX-D0 and RX-CLK per receiver module to communicate upto 50Mbps speed. For this we have study Fast serial interface (FSI) adapter board evaluation module TMDSFSIADAPEVM.

Below are design related queries.

1. For our application we have selected SN65LVDM050PW line driver IC for communicating at the speed of 50Mbps. And in TMDSFSIADAPEVM board DSLVDS1047PWR is used as line driver IC.

Is SN65LVDM050PW part is compitable for this kind of requirement?

2. In TMDSFSIADAPEVM board, Bourns Make CDSOT23-SM712 TVS diodes are used at differential signals of line driver IC. And we have selected Texas Instruments Make, TPD2E2U06 and TPD2E007 TVS diodes for our design.

So can we use one of these two selected parts (TPD2E2U06 and TPD2E007) for our application?

Why CDSOT23-SM712 (TVS Diode) part is used in your TMDSFSIADAPEVM board?

For your reference we are planning to use all TI parts for our application, so plese suggest if any alternative is available.

Thanks & Regards,

Dushyant Rana

  • Hi Dushyant,

For #1, the drivers on the SN65LVDM050 are comparable to the DSLVDS1047 so it should be fine.

For the rest of your questions I will move this thread to the group that designed this EVM to answer.

    Regards,

    I.K.

  • Hi Dushyant,

Let us get back to you on your question below next week.

Overall the diode protection you choose should meet the necessary amount of immunity needed and depends on your operating conditions and environment.

  • Dear Kevin,

Considering same operating conditions and environment assumed for TMDSFSIADAPEVM Board,

Can we use Texas Instruments Make, TPD2E2U06 or TPD2E007 TVS Diodes for our application?

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Hi Dushyant,

I have a couple of follow-up questions to help us assist you further:

    1. You are planning to protect the differential LVDS lines, similar to what is done in the TMDSFSIADAPEVM, correct?
    2. What is the working voltage and absolute Max voltage of your system?

For LVDS specifically, TPD2E2U06 is a better solution than TPD2E007. Please see page 5 of the below guide for a quick reference of TI protection parts and uses. TPDxE05U06 is another good option for LVDS if you prefer 1, 4, or 6 channels of protection.

  • Hi Dushyant,

Are you planning on using the receiver portion of SN65LVDM050PW? If not, any reason you're wanting to use it over the DSLVDS1047PWR?

    Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

Are you planning on using the receiver portion of SN65LVDM050PW? If not, any reason you're wanting to use it over the DSLVDS1047PWR?

In our application we are using 2 tranmitters (TX-D0 and TX-CLK) and 2 receivers (RX-D0 and RX-CLK) for FSI interface.

So for this application if we go with DSLVDS1047PWR then we will need 2 driver ICs,

And if we go with SN65LVDM50PW then we will need only 1 driver IC. Due to this reason we have selected SN65LVDM50PW Driver IC.

You are planning to protect the differential LVDS lines, similar to what is done in the TMDSFSIADAPEVM, correct?

    Correct.

As we would like know any specific reason for using of CDSOT23-SM712 TVS diode for DSLVDS1047PWR Driver IC in TMDSFSIADAPEVM board.

What is the working voltage and absolute Max voltage of your system?

    Working voltage is 3.3 V.

    Thanks & Regards,

You would need both DS1047 (driver) and DS1048 (receiver). Understand if you're trying to limit the number of ICs used. Would like to mention that both DS1047 & DS1048 together will still be lower cost than a single SN65LVDM50PW, if cost is a concern for your application.

TPD2E2U06 should be a better option than the Bourns CDSOT23-SM712 diode for your use case (LVDS and 3.3V working voltage).

    Best,
