TUSB8042: Using without EEPROM

Is this a battery charging application? Operation for port charging is described in Table 3. TUSB8042 Battery Charging Modes without EEPROM in the datasheet. The current is limited for each port is controlled by the Vbus switch.

Yes, the hub does not require I2C or SMBUS.  It can be configured using pin configuration only.

I will just have a 900mA limit on 3/4 ports that will be external. I don't want to do the Battery Charging and was reading through that to try to figure out how to pull the lines, but I didn't see how to do that if I'm enabling the ports with the POWERCTL, then all of the POWERCTL lines are high. The upstream will be connected to a CPU USB port but since that is internal it's not providing VBUS power, so I don't know which way I should set the 'Upstream VBUS'.

What it typically done? CDP or DCP?

Battery charging only applies to the downstream ports of TUSB8042 and is not necessary for USB 3 default current (900 mA). There is no need for extra pin setting for default current. For internal connections to the upstream port a GPIO signal or power line could be used.
