DP83826E: RCSR register (0x17) & registers SOR1 & SOR2

Part Number: DP83826E

Hi team,

My customer is currently evaluating the DP83826E and had the following question/concerns:

One of the issues they encountered was with the RCSR register (0x17). The datasheet specifies that bit 5 and 6 are reserved, read only and set to 0. However when they read the register it reads back as 1, but more importantly when they write them as 0, the Phy seems to switch to MII mode instead of RMII set by the strapping resistors.

1. Do you have more information or is this a “hidden feature”?

2. Also they noticed Registers SOR1 & SOR2 don’t have the type set for all bits, which caused some confusion while debugging the MII/RMII issue. Can you comment on this?

Thanks in advance for the support.

BR, Obinna.

  • Hi Obinna,

    Apologies on the confusion

    1. To manually R/W register to RMII or MII mode you will configure bit 5 of reg 0x17. Currently the register is labeled as reserved which could be a datasheet typo.

Bit 5 outlines as 1 = RMII mode and 0 = MII mode which looks to be configuring as expected as well. This should allow you to read and write properly.

Bit 7 is selection for master or slave for RMII

    2. SOR1 is read only so these will only let you know what strap levels the PHY is in and can't be configured.

    Thanks,

    Cecilia
