TUSB8042: Question for TUSB8042 Downstream Port Occasionally not recognized Issue

Part Number: TUSB8042

Hi Team,

Our customer is using TUSB8042 with one camera device connected with around 1.8m cable, during the test there is occasionally not recognized issue by their SoC for the camera device. They have captured the USB log as attached, can you kindly help to analyze what's the problem in here? I'm suspecting it could be caused by the USB signals integration as long USB cable without redriver device, but need your more insights to check their log to locate it.

Thanks a lot!

  • Hi Jacky,

Can the customer confirm what is happening on this trace?  There is both USB 2.0 and 3.0 traffic and several resets.  What speed is the camera?  What is the system behavior when this trace was taken?

    Thanks,

    JMMN

  • Hi JMMN,

Please kindly refer to below customer's feedback, thanks.

Can the customer confirm what is happening on this trace?  There is both USB 2.0 and 3.0 traffic and several resets.

    • There is no USB device found by their SoC from low level driver when recording this trace. Their camera module including far-field voice detection circuits which is USB2.0 interface, the camera interface is USB3.0.

What is the system behavior when this trace was taken?

    • System behavior is that it can not find the USB device by their SoC from low level driver and upper application.
  • Hi Jacky,

What operating system?  I see various devices enumerating at both HS and SS behind the hub and being accessed by the host controller including at least one camera function.  The only true reset is at time 0.11.224.873 when the SuperSpeed Host Disconnected.  The various other resets look like low power states since the devices are not re-enumerated afterwards.

    JMMN

  • Hi JMMN,

Customer used the Windows and Android dual OS, and it will be switched depends on the use case. After the OS exchanging, they will perform a hardware reset for TUSB8042 using GRSTz pin. But even after that operation, there still will be probability having no USB device recognized issue like we mentioned above.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Jacky,

In the Windows OS, can they send a screen capture of device manager or usbview.exe when the devices are not appearing?  The trace shows enumeration and accesses to devices behind the hub.

    Regards,

    JMMN
