DP83TC811S-Q1: Reverse Loopback MII Interface

Part Number: DP83TC811S-Q1

Hi Team,

It is possible to have the 811 run reverse loopback, but turn off any data communication on the MII interface?

Thank you,

Jared

  • Hi Jared,

I am not clear on the intention. In reverse loopback, data is sent across the cable to the PHY, looped back internally before reaching the MAC. and sent back across the cable. In this sense, data is not communicated across the MII interface to a MAC. Are you saying you do not want data to reach the MII interface at all? Or is it sufficient that data is looped back before reaching the MAC?

    Thank you,

    Nikhil

  • Hi Nikhil,

I do not want data to reach the MII interface at all. In the reverse loopback picture below, it shows that data both goes out on the MII interface (yellow highlight) and is looped back to the MDI output (green line). Is this diagram accurate? If so, how do I get the yellow highlighted portion (data going out to MII interface) to turn of completely (if that is possible)?

    Thank you!

    Jared

  • Hi Jared,

We are looking into this issue and will provide feedback by Wednesday this week.

    Thank you,

    Nikhil

  • Hi Jared,

When setting the device for Reverse Loopback, the data will follow the green path you have drawn. Data will not be sent to the MII pins as you have highlighted in yellow. Does this answer your question?

    Thank you,

    Nikhil
