Hello,

My customer is designing Type-C USB application (Only DFP, USB2.0, no PD) with TUSB320LAI, AM335x and TPS2069D.
Then they are asking what ESD devices are the best for this configuration. 

I found some similar posts in E2E, but I’m not still clear.
Because it doesn’t use PD, VBUS is 5V. So they don’t need to think about 20V VBUS short to CC pins ideally.
So if they don’t worry about the VBUS short, just putting usual ESD component like TPD4E5U06 or ESD122 on CCx/DP/DM is enough.
But if they want to think of any irregular cases, putting TPDS6S300A on CCx/DP/DM or TPDS2S300 on CCx and ESD112 on DP/DM would be good solution.The above is my understanding. What do you think?

And how to think about VBUS pin? Is it common to put any ESD or TVS on DFP VBUS line?

    If it is type-c only, I do not think you need large protection on VBUS unless you need ESD protection. The TPS25810 is our Type-C only controller and the TPS25810EVM is a good example schematic to look at for protection. We have a bypass capacitor on VBUS and no protection on CC. I would still recommend something like the TPD1E05U06 for the CC lines, if you submit a question under the tag TPD1E05U06, that team will also be able to point you in a good direction. If you want ESD protection you can add a TVS2200.

    If the customer is expecting 20V on VBUS, then it is recommended to add a TVS2200 to VBUS and have either the TPD2S300 or the TPD6S300A as protection for the other pins.
